A Love Story Ten Years in the Making

There’s something about military marriages. The typical statistic for married couples in general is that 50% of them will get divorced at some point. In the military, that percent is at least 75. There’s truth behind the joke that their first marriage is a “365 day trial.”

Evan and Andie first met by chance at a Mexican restaurant in Illinois. She was out getting dinner with her friend Trisha, and he was leaving the restaurant with some coworkers. Since Trisha and Evan were friends already through tech school, they greeted each other as they met in the entrance. Evan told Trisha that he picked the Jalisco platter from the menu, and Andie cringed at the way he pronounced it (juh-lisk-co).

The very next day, Trisha and Andie were out for dinner again—this time, with Evan in tow. After eating some good Thai food and heading back to the dorms for a movie and drinks (IYKYK), the deal was sealed and from there, the relationship began.

Andie and Evan were married on October 10, 2015 in Destin, FL with a modest amount of family and friends present. After two back to back deployments, countless TDYs, countless roadtrips and vacations, two cats, and welcoming Leon into the world, they found that ten years had flown by just like that. They knew that it was time to renew the vows they had made to each other, and have everyone special in their lives present this time around. Especially the friends they made along the way.

Most people join the military and find a sense of purpose. Some utilize it for school. For some, to travel the world. Andie and Evan didn’t know what to expect when they left the lives they knew to join the Air Force, but they definitely didn’t expect to find each other and create one of the greatest love stories known.

It’s safe to say, that the “365 day trial” went really well. Defying statistics is their kind of thing!
